WHAT IS CYAN AND COUGH?
The California Youth Advocacy Network (CYAN) is a statewide organization dedicated to supporting youth and young adult tobacco prevention advocacy throughout California. COUGH (Campuses Organized and United for Good Health) is a statewide student-led coalition dedicated to ensuring healthy educational environments free of tobacco and tobacco industry presence.

COUGH STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD
The COUGH Student Advisory Board is made of 7-15 undergraduate and graduate students interested in working closely with CYAN staff to provide direction for statewide college tobacco-free efforts. Advisory Board members will participate in the following activities:
• Provide recommendations to CYAN staff on program activities
• Serve on 1-2 COUGH workgroups/subcommittees
• Help plan statewide activities, days of action, and trainings
• Represent COUGH at various conferences, meetings, and events
• Potentially facilitate workshops at conferences, trainings, and events

WHAT EXPERIENCES DO STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERS GAIN?
• Develop leadership skills
• Strengthen public speaking and communication skills
• Increase knowledge of current tobacco issues
• Network with other college advocates from around the state
• Increase experience for resume/graduate school

WHAT WOULD MY COMMITMENT TO CYAN ENTAIL?
• Attend as-needed Advisory Board teleconferences/webinars
• Help plan statewide activities, campaigns, days of action, and trainings
• Attend at least 1 in-person Board meeting (dates/locations TBA, expenses paid by CYAN)
• Stay in regular communication with CYAN staff and board

APPLICANTS MUST BE:
• Enrolled in a California college or university during the 2016-2017 school year
• Currently active with tobacco prevention, cessation, or policy activities on their college campus
• Able to serve a one-year term (July 2016 – June 2017)
• Able to check and respond to email at least once a week
• Hard working, enthusiastic, team players
• Expresses confidence in sharing their ideas and a willingness to speak up
• Willing and able to travel to in-person meetings, trainings, and conferences
