Smithville Economic Development Survey
June 2016-August 2016

This Economic Development Survey is intended to continue the discussion with people from Smithville and people who shop in and around Smithville about economic development.

The purpose of this survey is to gather information about shopping habits and perceived gaps in service that will help our existing merchants and service providers better meet the needs of the community and to attract new businesses by showing them the market opportunities in Smithville.

The survey you are taking today uses a few of the same questions as well as demographic data for comparability, but focuses new questions on the visual, performing, and culinary arts.

Survey Methodology

- A more comprehensive survey was completed in early 2014. Questions were based on input from a focus group, and the survey was administered via on-line and paper surveys located around town as well as in the utility bill. Over 400 people responded. A report was available in April, 2014.

- The original survey was a "snowball survey" in which various people were asked to participate, and to help us ask others to participate in an effort to collect as much information from as many of our residents and visitors as possible in the time frame. Survey Monkey was used and disseminated through social media, and volunteers and staff passed out paper surveys at Brookshire Brothers, the Recreation Center, Churches, the Library, City Hall and other public meeting places, and sent forms out through the Utility Bill and through the school system.

- This will again be a "snowball survey" that we hope will generate more than 400 responses to have a fairly accurate concept about how the community feels about Economic Development Issues. It will again be available at public places and through the Utility Bill. However, this survey is a "summer" survey and therefore we will not be able to ask Smithville Independent School District for its help disseminating it through the school system.

- Because this is a "snowball survey," we have asked demographic questions to try to get a sense of how well the respondents match our community's demographics.

Thank you for participating in our survey. Your feedback is important.
