Become a COPD Foundation Captain!
Start here by completing this COPD Foundation Captain application.

Welcome and thank you for applying to be an advocate with us. Your advocacy is needed now more than ever! Please be sure to visit the “Take Action” tab on the COPD Foundation website  to learn more about our program.

Individuals who apply to be advocates with us are volunteers who are people living with COPD, caregivers, healthcare professionals, family members or others who have a sincere desire to make positive contributions to the COPD, bronchiectasis, and nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lung disease communities.

There are many good reasons to volunteer. Volunteering allows you to develop experience and skills, connect with community, expand your network, boost your social skills, gain valuable information, and of course, make a positive impact on our communities. We do our best to provide our captains with the tools, education, resources, and support they need to make a difference.

Most captains spend about 5-10 hours per month volunteering, but volunteer time can vary greatly. Volunteer work can be done virtually, in-person, or both. Your time investment and volunteer activities are for you to decide. We do ask that you communicate with us about your volunteer activities, check the calendar and discussions in our Captain Meeting House at least monthly, attend our monthly meetings when possible, review our monthly newsletters, and keep us posted on how we can continue to support your good work.

Before filling out the application, please make sure you have joined our online support community, COPD360social, and make note of the Username (the username is what you use to login to COPD360social) and email that you use for COPD360social. We will request these in this application to create an account on the Captain Meeting House, our online meeting place, with discussions and more.

We are so glad you are here! We truly look forward to working with you as a new advocate to our community.

Warmly,

The Captain Support Team
