Certified Practice Competencies - Updated Contraceptive Management Competencies

Background

In November 2024, the British Columbia College of Nurses (BCCNM) approved revisions to the Registered Nurse Certified Practice Limits and Conditions to clarify that RNs certified in Contraceptive Management may prescribe, dispense, administer, insert, or remove any type of contraception, not just hormonal contraception.

NNPBC is developing a decision support tool (DST) to support RNs certified in Contraceptive Management to insert and remove intrauterine contraception. In addition, a competency statement related to this activity has been added to Part 2 'Contraceptive Management' of the Certified Practice Competencies. We are seeking your feedback on the addition of this competency statement.
