The Montana Department of Labor and Industry is required to set the proper prevailing wage rates and determine the proper classifications for work performed on public works projects.  The Department is conducting an area practice survey to ensure proper classification for pipefitter and laborer/pipelayer work on heavy construction inside water and waste water treatment plants,  The results of the survey will help the Department determine the correct classification for the work.

We are asking for your help in classifying workers where the work in question involves:

1.)    Joining large diameter pipe with bolted flange connections, when the work did not include cutting, grinding, welding, or other fabrication of pipe, and:

2.)    the term “large diameter pipe” refers to steel pipe larger than 12 inches in diameter that has been pre-fabricated off site and does not require any modification such as cutting, grinding, welding, or other fabrication in order to be installed.
