Nominate a world language student to win a $5,000 study abroad scholarship with CIEE!

In a mission to recognize student achievement in language learning, CLTA is partnering with CIEE – the country’s largest nonprofit study abroad and intercultural exchange organization - to launch the first “California Language Student of the Year Award.”

This award provides world language teachers in California an opportunity to put forth the endeavors of their best students and highlight their own achievements as well. The runners-up and the winner will all receive scholarships to study abroad on a CIEE Global Navigator High School Summer Abroad Language & Culture program, and the winner will be honored in person at the annual CLTA conference.

How does it work?
The students you nominate will be expected to travel on a summer abroad program if they win a scholarship, so make sure you nominate students who are open to the opportunity and excited about studying abroad!

You can nominate any number of students at any proficiency level, as long as they qualify to study abroad on a CIEE program. Nominate your most deserving students! Students with a passion for global discovery, dedication to learning a world language, and eagerness to learn outside of the classroom make strong candidates.

Next steps:
  • After you've nominated a student, make sure they know to select a program and apply here. CIEE will also reach out to the student, doubling your effort!
  • You will be asked to write a short recommendation for the student as part of their program application.
  • Your student must complete their application by December 1.
