ASAM Financial Sustainability Subcommittee Call for Applications Survey

The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) is seeking several subject matter experts to serve on the Financial Sustainability Subcommittee, a subcommittee of the Practice Management and Regulatory Affairs Committee (PMRAC). The Financial Sustainability Subcommittee advises ASAM on physician payment, coding, reimbursement, and payer policy issues affecting addiction medicine. The Subcommittee also supports ASAM's engagement with the AMA CPT Editorial Panel and Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) processes and helps ensure that coding and payment systems appropriately reflect the practice of addiction medicine.

Key Responsibilities

• Coding and reimbursement expertise: Review and provide feedback on coding, reimbursement, and payment policy issues affecting addiction medicine.
• CPT code development: Assist ASAM's CPT Advisor and Alternate CPT Advisor in evaluating opportunities for new or revised CPT codes and related coding proposals.
• Payer policy analysis: Evaluate public and private payer policies that affect access to addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery services.
• Member education: Help educate ASAM members regarding coding, billing, reimbursement, and payment-related issues.
• RUC participation support: Serve as a member of ASAM's Specialty Society RVS Committee and provide expertise related to physician work valuation and reimbursement processes.

3.Desired qualifications (Check all that apply)

Coding expertise: Experience with CPT, HCPCS, medical coding, documentation, or billing compliance.

Reimbursement knowledge: Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer reimbursement, and/or physician payment methodologies.

Payer experience: Current or previous employment with or consulting work for a public or private payer (e.g., state Medicaid agency, Medicare contractor, or commercial insurer).

Practice management experience: Knowledge of healthcare administration, revenue cycle management, or clinical operations.

Alternative payment model expertise: Experience with value-based care arrangements, quality measurement, or alternative payment models.

The ASAM Criteria® expertise: Experience implementing or applying The ASAM Criteria in clinical, operational, or payer settings.

4.I understand the time commitment:
• At least one virtual meeting annually, with additional meetings convened as needed to review coding proposals, payer issues, or emerging reimbursement matters.
• Approximately 1–3 hours per month to review and comment on coding proposals, reimbursement issues, payer policies, and other materials as needed.

· Involvement in physician billing, reimbursement, revenue cycle management, or payer policy;

· What coding, reimbursement, or payment challenges should ASAM prioritize to improve access to addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery services?
