CHOA Wading Pool Survey
1.
We were recently made aware that, in order to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for public pools, the small wading/kiddie pool will need to be redesigned and completely rebuilt from scratch. The updated plan is to change the pool's shape to a square, and build an 8' sloped entry ramp to comply with ADA.
This will result in a significant increase in the cost of the Main Pool project – somewhere in the ballpark of $350,000 to $450,000. (Previous estimates assumed a chair lift could be used to satisfy ADA requirements and the pool itself would remain unchanged, but we were recently told that this would not be feasible due to the size of the wading pool).
Rebuilding the wading pool would be a significant expense not currently budgeted for and the Board is seeking feedback from the membership in order to make an informed decision.
An alternative option being considered is removing the wading pool entirely and paving over the area,
expanding the size of usable pool deck. This would keep the cost of the project within our current budget.
Given this information, which of the following options do you prefer?
Remove the wading pool
Keep the wading pool
Indifferent or undecided
