Empower RVA Teens Introduction

Thank you for taking the time to apply for YWCA Richmond's Teen Peer Facilitation Program, Empower RVA Teens! Please take some time to read below about the specifics of this program. 

About Empower RVA Teens: 
This is a youth-led Teen Peer Facilitation program for local high school-aged teens. It aims to prevent teen dating violence and sexual assault by empowering teens to teach their peers about healthy relationships, teen dating violence, sexual violence, and consent.  
 
You will have the opportunity to:
  • Gain public speaking & facilitation skills   
  • Facilitate workshops for peers
  • Lead events and conversations throughout the year
  • Meet with legislatures to advocate for policies at state & federal level 
You will learn about: 
  • Dating violence & sexual violence
  • Healthy relationships & sexuality 
  • Warning signs of abuse
  • What constitutes a healthy relationship
  • How to help friends who may be in abusive relationships
  • Social justice & youth activism

Who Can Apply: 
High-school-age teens in the Greater Richmond area (includes anyone enrolled in local high schools, currently home-schooled or not enrolled in any school).

Time Commitment: 
  • 3-day Teen Peer Educator Training: Required training where you will learn the necessary skills and content to be a certified Peer Educator.
  • Meetings 2 times per month: After becoming certified, you will be expected to be an active member of the group, which includes attending our group meetings 2 times per month. Meetings may increase around events or workshops. 
 

Application Process:
Submit your online application by June 1st, 2020 
You will be contacted by YWCA staff to schedule an in-person or phone interview before or after the application due date. *Applications will be reviewed and accepted as they come in, so please apply as soon as possible.*
