GATESOL Teacher of the Year Award

Applicant Information

The purpose of this award is to acknowledge the service of dedicated and committed ESOL teachers in Georgia.  Board members will review your responses.  Please remember that two letters of recommendation are also required.  One must be written by an administrator in your school district regarding your contributions to a community of practice.  The other letter of recommendation must be from a current GATESOL member attesting to your dedication to the field of ESOL. 
Both letters of recommendation should be emailed to

by the due date (September 30th)
with your name and the award in the subject line
(example:  Juan Doe - Teacher of the Year).
1.How many total years have you been a teacher
2.How many years have you been an ESOL teacher
3.Demographics: Describe your student caseload. Include the number of students, grade level(s), and languages. How do you create a supportive and nurturing educational environment for language instruction?

4.Why are you an ESOL Teacher? Why are you passionate about this field?
5.What is your teaching philosophy? Please support your argument with literature and list the related resources from the literature.
6.Describe your understanding of community, and your  involvement in online, global, and local communities of practice. How do you share your knowledge, skills, and abilities with colleagues?

7.Describe your efforts to continue your own professional development. How do you continue to grow and learn? How do you stay informed about research in the field?
8.Please write a brief description about yourself. Please include your degrees(s) and accomplishments. If selected, this description will appear in the Georgia TESOL newsletter as part of your profile.
