PLEASE TAKE THIS SHORT SURVEY AND TELL US MORE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR COMMUNITY’S EXPERIENCES WITH FLOOD.

Council wants to better understand your ideas, information and insights into flooding in your community to best inform the Draft Planning Scheme Amendment for improved Floodplain Management across the region.

Participants who provide contact details will go into a random draw to win a $200 pre-loaded EFTPOS card. The winner will be notified directly by council by email or phone.

Your insights will work to inform the draft amendment council will put forward to the State Government, to further support improved land use and development across the region in relation to flood.   Further consultation will also occur later this year.

The final amendment will help us better plan for floodplain preparedness, responsiveness, and resilience well into the future, so it is important to have your say now and complete the following Survey.

The Survey will be live from Sunday 23 May to midnight, Wednesday 9 June 2021.

Council thanks you in advance for helping to build stronger communities together, and for working together to create more protected, prepared and resilient communities when flood hazards occur.

* 7. A flood map is an important tool that indicates how different size flood events can affect a community.   Have you ever seen a flood map for your property?

Question Title

* 8. The size of a flood event, or its magnitude, can be expressed in many ways. The peak level of the water at a particular location in a waterway (ie. A river or creek) is used to then classify the event by its height, and the Bureau of Meteorology uses three general categories of flooding related to water level:

Minor: This causes inconvenience such as closing of minor roads and the submergence of low level bridges and makes the removal of pumps located adjacent to the river necessary.

Moderate: This causes the inundation of low lying areas requiring the removal of stock and/or the evacuation of some houses. Main traffic bridges may be closed by floodwaters.

Major: This causes inundation of large areas, isolating towns and cities. Major disruptions occur to road and rail links. Evacuation of many houses and business premises may be required. In rural areas, widespread flooding of farmland is likely.

For each type of flood event how well prepared do you think you are?
