Project Information

The Association of Children’s Museums (ACM) and the University of Washington’s Museology Graduate Program (UW) are soliciting applications for participation in an expanded cohort of the Children’s Museum Research Network (CMRN).

The development of CMRN is funded by a National Leadership Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, The Learning Value of Children's Museums: Building a Practicing Research Network in the Children’s Museum Field.  The intention of the Research Network is to collectively develop a sustainable infrastructure for cross-institutional research activities in the children’s museum field, guided by the Learning Value of Children’s Museums Research Agenda

CMRN currently consists of (1) leadership from both ACM and UW and (2) staff members from the ten children’s museums of the original cohort. An application process was also conducted for the original cohort, and our first network meeting was during InterActivity 2015. The original cohort has been instrumental in the development of the network, particularly regarding the structure of field-wide research projects, or Special Interest Groups. To date, the cohort has been working on three research projects. The research topics are based on analysis of field-wide learning trends and guided by the Research Agenda. Data collection and analysis is conducted by cohort participants and facilitated by UW.
