Following Dr. Brendan Lee's lecture on "Building a Sustainable Research Program", we invite you to participate in a professional networking session with BCM faculty who will lead round-table discussions on a variety of topics. 

Participants will have the opportunity to rotate at various tables. Refreshments provided.

Topics of discussion include: 
- Grant Writing: writing an effective research plan; managing your first R01
Faculty Job Search: interviewing/negotiating job offers; standing out as applicant
- Lab Management: setting up your lab; managing budgets; working with start-up funds
- Personnel Management & Mentoring: hiring/staffing the lab; recruiting students; mentoring staff vs. trainees
- Funding: opportunities for new investigators; career development awards
- Career Development Awards: K99/R00 - Transitioning from career development award to faculty 
- Managing Effective Collaborations: setting expectations, authorship negotiation, project management
- Postdoc to Faculty Transition: how to work with your mentor during job search 
Work/Life Balance: maintaining work-life balance/managing burnout/when to say “no” 
Mentoring (for you): developing mentors as a junior faculty and ensuring you get the necessary mentoring
