It should give you the basic idea of what the research is about and what your participation will involve. Purpose of the Project:
The purpose of this project is to examine the general awareness, perception and use of the 2019 Canada’s Food Guide among people living in Canada and how this relates to demographics and self-perceived health status.

Study Procedures:
To participate, you must be over the age of 18 and currently residing in Canada. As a participant, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire which will take less than 10 minutes. This questionnaire will ask you demographic questions, health related questions and information regarding the 2019 Canada’s Food Guide.

Withdrawal:
You are free to withdraw from the study at any time while completing the questionnaire, and /or refrain from answering any questions pertaining to the questionnaire, without prejudice or consequence. By closing your browser prior to choosing “done”, the information will not be collected, and the data will be erased. Once you click “Done”, you will be unable to withdraw and the questionnaire will be submitted to the research team.

Potential Risks:
No greater than in everyday life.

Benefits:
The results of this study will provide information to benefit Health Canada and health care practitioners such as registered dietitians in promoting the use of the 2019 Canada’s Food Guide to improve the dietary habits of Canadians.

Confidentiality:
Information gathered in this study may be published and presented in public forums. However, questionnaires will be completely anonymous. Data downloaded from the Survey Monkey website will be stored on a password protected computer in a locked office (R4052 St. Boniface Hospital Research Centre, Dr. Suh’s Clinical Office) that is accessible only to Dr. Miyoung Suh and Chelsey Walchuk. Access to this data will be limited strictly to the researchers named above and a 4-student research team in the HNSC 4600 Practice-based Research in Human Nutritional Sciences course.

Feedback to Participants:
Participants are invited to attend student presentations of this research on April 12, 2021 at 2:30 pm (CDT) via WebEx meeting (click for link).

Renumeration:
There will be no renumeration.
