This is the application to take the Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL) Part I examination.  Your application will be reviewed for compliance with eligibility criteria.  After you apply, you can expect email communication from the Certification Team at CoSN within five (5) business days.

If your application is approved, you will receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) email with an Eligibility ID# and instructions on how to make your personal testing reservation at one of Prometric's testing centers.  Prometric is CoSN's test delivery partner.

Once you have been sent your Authorization to Test email, you will have six (6) months to complete Part I of the CETL exam.  This expiration date will be listed in your email.

If you have registered to take the exam at a specific event (i.e., a conference), you will receive an Authorization to Test email with reporting instructions which shall serve as your admissions ticket to the exam.

  • The questions and answers on the CETL exam are the exclusive and confidential property of the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), are copyrighted, and are protected by CoSN’s intellectual property rights
  • I shall not to disclose the exam questions or answers or discuss any of the content of the exam materials with any person without prior written approval of CoSN
  • I shall not to remove from the examination room any exam materials of any kind provided to you or any other material related to the exam, including, without limitation, any notes or calculations
  • I shall not copy or attempt to make copies (written, photocopied, electronically, or otherwise) of any exam materials, including, without limitation, any exam questions or answers
  • I shall not sell, license, publish, reproduce, transmit, distribute, give away, or obtain from any other source other than CoSN the exam materials, including, without limitation, any exam questions or answers without the prior written approval of CoSN
  • That obligations under the Terms of Confidentiality will continue in effect after the examination and, if applicable, after termination of your certification, regardless of the reason or reasons for termination and whether such termination is voluntary or involuntary

By submitting this Certification application, I acknowledge and affirm that the information I have provided herein is true and correct to the best of my knowledge, I understand and agree that the Consortium of School Networking (CoSN) and its Certification Governance Committee may require documentation of any information included in my application—including my academic, continuing education, licensing, criminal, regulatory, and employment records—and may determine that I am ineligible for Certification if I fail to provide that documentation, and I authorize the Certification Governance Committee and CoSN to access, obtain, and review my academic, continuing education, licensing, criminal, regulatory, and employment records without limitation. I hereby authorize all institutions in possession of my academic, continuing education, licensing, criminal, regulatory, and employment records to release those records and report the contents of those records to the Certification Governance Committee and CoSN. This authorization shall automatically expire three years after this application is submitted, or three years after the expiration of my CETL Certification following my final Recertification cycle, whichever is later. Further, I agree to hold harmless, waive any and all legal claims against, and indemnify the Certification Governance Committee, CoSN, and their employees, officers, directors, consultants, agents, volunteer members, and vendors, and the institutions releasing records or reporting their contents to the Certification Governance Committee or CoSN.

I authorize the Certification Governance Committee and CoSN to use information from my application, demographic information, and subsequent Certification examination performance, professional development activities, and Recertification activities for any lawful purpose, provided that my personal identification will not be made public. I have read and understand all of the information provided in the Certification Handbook.

The Certification Governance Committee may suspend or permanently revoke Certification in the event that I do not adhere to or am in violation of the CETL Code of Ethics. I understand and agree that submitting false, misleading, or incomplete information may result in denial, suspension, or permanent revocation of CETL Certification, and/or civil or criminal legal action. I understand that I can be disqualified from taking or completing the examination, or from receiving examination scores, and may be reported to appropriate legal authorities, if CoSN determines through either proctor observation or statistical analysis that I was engaged in collaborative, disruptive, or other inappropriate behavior during administration of the examination. In the event of disqualification, suspension, or permanent revocation of Certification, I release CoSN and the Certification Governance Committee from any liability.
