Main Questions

Submissions are now being accepted for the Advisory Committee of the Cultural Equity and Inclusion Initiative.

Deadline to apply is Friday, March 23 at 5:00 p.m.

In April 2017, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission released a report on the Cultural Equity and Inclusion Initiative (CEII), an 18-month public process that led to the development of 13 recommendations to the LA County Board of Supervisors to ensure that everyone in LA County has equitable access to arts and culture, and to improve inclusion in the wider arts ecology for all residents in every community.

CEII was in response to a Board resolution in November 2015 directing the LA County Arts Commission to conduct “a constructive Countywide conversation about ways to improve diversity in cultural organizations” for all LA County residents, and focused on five key areas: staff, boards, audience, programming and creators/artists. The CEII process included an Advisory Committee made up of a wide range of local experts and led by three Co-Chairs.

In June 2017 the Board of Supervisors approved funding for five recommendations included in the CEII report. At this time the Board of Supervisors directed the Arts Commission to maintain a CEII Advisory Committee as a standing committee of the Arts Commission.

  • Members of the CEII Advisory Committee will serve a two-year term with an invitation to renew membership at the end of their term for a maximum of four consecutive years on the committee.
  • A minimum of two meetings of the Committee will be held per fiscal year. These meetings will be mandatory unless excused. Additional meetings may take place depending on need and work plan. NOTE: there will be a Committee meeting the week of May 21, 2018.
  • New members will be identified by a nominating subcommittee (consisting of the Committee co-chairs and five Arts Commissioners) bi-annually who will provide a recommended slate to the Arts Commissioners for approval.
  • The Committee will be comprised of 30 community members and five Arts Commissioners.
  • The Committee will consist of representation of the following: Race and ethnicity, gender, age, physical ability, LGBTQ status, income, arts discipline, Supervisorial district and geography across LA County.
