Have Your Say in Community Planning

This questionnaire is part of the Electoral Area 'E' Community Land Use Planning Conversations, which will be used by the Regional District to better understand how residents feel about the current level of planning in their communities and whether they have specific land use concerns.

In 2020, the RDCK Board passed a resolution brought forward by Local Area Director Ramona Faust to host events to allow residents to ask questions and learn more about land use planning tools such as OCPs, zoning, and other kinds of land use bylaws. This was in response to feedback from previous community consultations (2011, 2018), current development pressures being felt throughout the Region, and land use concerns from Area 'E' residents.

Electoral Area 'E' currently has an Official Community Plan (OCP) that covers all parts of Area 'E' east of Nelson (including Mountain Station). There are bylaws in place that regulate Subdivision and Floodplain Management in all of the RDCK, including all of Area 'E'. There is no zoning anywhere in Area 'E'.

With communities expressing concerns about land use and increasing pressures, this is a good time to ask if land use planning is a tool communities would like to explore further or not. To ascertain where, what and if, we must engage the whole of Area 'E', not just the communities who are interested in land use regulation.

Community conversations were held remotely in June and July 2021 with members of different communities. This questionnaire was requested as a follow-up to those meetings to ensure everyone, including those that did not attend the meetings, could provide their feedback.

The purpose of the questionnaire is to collect your ideas to:
1) Hear from you about what is important to your community, the issues you may be experiencing, and the issues that you want to avoid in the future; and,
2) Understand if there is interest from different communities to explore land use planning as a tool to address community concerns or not.

All of the information gathered will be anonymous. If you do not wish to answer a question, you can skip it, and you may stop at any time. We deeply appreciate you sharing your feedback.

Please submit your response before December 3, 2021.
