What is the current AAP guidelines in iron supplementation in healthy full term babies?
Start iron at 1mg/kg/daily at 4 months for exclusively/predominantly breastfed babies until infants begin eating iron-containing complementary foods
Start iron at 1mg/kg/daily at 4 months for all full term infants regardless of diet (breastfed/formula-fed)
Start iron at 2mg/kg/daily at 4 months for babies at high risk only (e.g., maternal iron deficiency, malabsorptive disease, lead exposure, etc)
Healthy full term breastfed babies do not need extra iron supplementation during infancy
