During the CELF 2022 Summer Institutes you will engage in collaborative and active learning experiences that deepen your knowledge of Education for Sustainability (EfS) principles and/or the Civic Science Inquiry to Action framework. The Institutes will provide you with a knowledgeable, creative community of school/district teachers,  administrators and non-formal educators who are committed to supporting each other with best practices, resources and shared experiences.   APPLY TODAY! 

Scholarship Selection Process:
CELF will be offering a limited number of full scholarships to each institute.  Scholarships are limited.   Preference will be given to teachers applying from Title 1 schools and other needs-based applicants. CELF will contact you upon receipt of your application.
 
Scholarship Awardees agree to the following Deliverables:
  • Attendance: Participate in ALL scheduled days / hours of the Institute, in person or on Zoom depending on which institute you select
  • Pre- and Post-Institute Surveys:  Participants are required to complete both a pre- and post- institute surveys.  
  • Institute Deliverables: Complete and submit ONE of the following artifacts to CELF  by Aug 15, 2022: 
    • Houston or Westchester Locations:  Participants who choose to participate in this institute will submit either: 1) an EfS focused, re-designed lesson / activity with the integration of the Big Ideas of Sustainability or Civic Science Framework or 2) a reflection of your experience and takeaways from the Summer Institute.
    • Virtual Civic Science Inquiry to Action: Participants who choose to participate in this institute will submit either: 1) a Civic Science Implementation project planner using CELF inquiry to action framework or 2) a reflection of your experience and takeaways from the Summer Institute.

Sustainability - occurs when the environmental, economic and social needs of a society are met in the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

Education for Sustainability (EfS) - teaches problem solving strategies for the present, while engaging students as stakeholders in designing a sustainable world for the future.

Civic Science- Civic Science is both an approach to generating knowledge and a democratic practice. In Civic Science, student scientists express democratic citizenship through their scientific work: they engage in democratic world-building efforts as scientists.

Place-Based Education- An approach to learning that takes advantage of geography to create authentic, meaningful and engaging personalized learning for students.

Project-Based Learning- Teaching practice in which students learn by actively engaging in real-world and personally meaningful projects.
