About the Award

The AMEC Community Contribution Award reflects the importance of partnerships between mineral exploration and mining companies and the communities they operate in.

It is intended to raise the profile of companies who are collaborating with the community in emerging and established partnerships to provide sustainable and enduring benefits to communities. It is also intended to highlight the importance of working together through partnerships that are a true collaboration and build capacity long-term.

The award encompasses all aspects of community partnerships and projects including, but not limited to:
  • Funding commitments

The Community Contribution Award is awarded jointly to the company and the community group.

Award Eligibility
The award is intended to recognise commitment and innovation in partnerships throughout the life of the mine – from exploration through to closure.

It is made to a company and community group that goes above and beyond in their partnership by developing innovative methods to achieve better long-term community outcomes.

Nominations are open to mining and mineral exploration companies, companies that provide products and services to the industry, and research organisations, and the community groups they are in a partnership with.

The award is limited to Australian companies and organisations and Australian projects and products.

Community isn’t necessarily geographically defined.  A community group/s is an association of individuals from a community, formed to advance a particular cause or interest. The community group/s must be based in Australia and have a connection with a mining and exploration industry operation. It includes a formal or informal community group or organisation.

Judging Criteria
Nominations will be judged on:
  • relevance to communities needs
  • degree of innovation from other types of partnerships
  • benefit (potential or existing) or the significance to industry and the community
  • level of collaboration between company and community.
  • capacity building within the community
Nominations will close at 5.00pm AWST on Friday 30 September 2022
