Introduction

The Linda Stevens Memorial Fund was set up by the late Mrs. Audrey Campbell (Linda's mother) and is named after Dr. Linda Stevens. Dr. Stevens was a cytogeneticist at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, who subsequently trained as a Medical Geneticist. In 1982, as she was about to take a position at the North York General Hospital in Toronto, she passed away while undergoing a heart catheterization procedure. The Fund was established to help further the training of CCMG Fellows or Royal College Medical Genetics residents during their training. The fund supports trainees participation in conferences, attending short courses or workshops, or undertaking training at other genetics centres. The Fund is in part sustained by donations from CCMG members. Due to limited funds, trainees are encouraged to avail themselves of additional funding opportunities, as appropriate.

Once per year, the Awards and Nominations committee will evaluate requests for stipends from the fund made by trainees in RCPSC or CCMG accredited Genetics centres. The fund amount varies from year to year. Funds available in any given year will be distributed in a proportional manner between all eligible applicants; as such, applicants may only receive part of the funding they have requested. The maximum amount to be awarded to applicants during their entire training period is $1800.00. Trainees can apply for the Linda Stevens Memorial Fund multiple times during their training, until such time as the maximum amount per person has been awarded.
