Crohn’s and Colitis Canada invites nominations for the following awards for researchers. The winners of both awards will have their travel, accommodation, and conference fees paid to attend the Meeting of the Minds conference in Toronto on November 2nd and 3rd, 2018.

DEADLINE EXTENDED: The deadline to submit nominations for each award is Wednesday, September 19th, 2018 at 5 PM EST.

1. Research Leadership Award

Background:

This award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated leadership and contributed significantly to advancing Crohn's and colitis research in Canada and has made an exceptional leadership contribution to the mission of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.

Nominated by their fellow scientists, recipients of the Research Leadership Award have made an exceptional contribution to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s Promise to cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and improve the lives of children and adults living with these chronic diseases.
 
The award will be presented at Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s annual Meeting of the Minds conference in Toronto, where the winner will have an opportunity to present their work.

Nomination criteria:

IBD scientists and researchers in Canada are eligible to be nominated. Nominations can be submitted by fellow scientists and IBD researchers. 

Selection criteria:

Nominations will be evaluated for demonstrated leadership and contributions to advancing Crohn's and colitis research in Canada and to the mission of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. The recipient will be selected by a Selection Panel comprised of individuals from the following groups, at the discretion of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, and as appropriate:
  • Crohn’s and Colitis Canada Scientific and Medical Advisory Council;
  • Canadian Community of Practice of IBD Nurses (CANIBD) members;
  • Crohn’s and Colitis Canada volunteers and patients;
  • Crohn's and Colitis Canada Board members;
  • Crohn’s and Colitis Canada staff.
2. Rising Star Award

This award recognizes an outstanding investigator in the early stages of his/her career. This award acknowledges the basic or clinical research accomplishments of a junior/newly emerging investigator in the field of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, within about 5 years of their first faculty appointment. The five year period criterion will be extended for individuals who have taken extended leaves of absence due to life circumstances such as parental or sick leave.

Nominated by their fellow scientists, recipients of the Rising Star Award are innovative and productive leaders who have made an outstanding contribution to supporting Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s mission.

The award will be presented at Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s annual Meeting of the Minds conference in Toronto, where the winner will have an opportunity to present their work.

Nomination criteria:

IBD scientists and researchers in Canada within about 5 years of their first faculty appointment are eligible to be nominated. Nominations can be submitted by fellow scientists and IBD researchers. 

Selection criteria:

Nominations will be evaluated for demonstrated innovation and leadership in the field of Crohn's and colitis research in Canada and for commitment to the mission of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. The recipient will be selected by a Selection Panel comprised of individuals from the following groups, at the discretion of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, and as appropriate:
  • Crohn’s and Colitis Canada Scientific and Medical Advisory Council;
  • Canadian Community of Practice of IBD Nurses (CANIBD) members;
  • Crohn’s and Colitis Canada volunteers and patients;
  • Crohn's and Colitis Canada Board members;
  • Crohn’s and Colitis Canada staff.
