Introduction:
The need for qualitative methodologies and methods is grounded in our need to answer questions, to innovate and progress public health research and practice. Conducting qualitative research allows us to approach, explore, analyse, and share people’s ascription of meaning to wellness and illness, how they experience certain phenomena, what influences their learning, their motivations behind decisions, and why they do what they do.
Purpose and Objectives of QMMN:
The primary aim of the QMMN will be to bring together practitioners of public health qualitative research, to support and learn from each other, in conducting and growing the application and rigour of qualitative methodologies and methods in research and education in public health.
➢ Provide support/mentoring to CAPHIA members in the development and strengthening of qualitative teaching and research capabilities, which complement member skills and professional expertise.
➢ Promote the significance of qualitative methods in public health higher education and research;
➢ Advocate for the application of qualitative methods in scholarship of teaching and learning and teaching innovations; and
➢ Stimulate new networking opportunities and provide webinar/workshops on qualitative topics and skills in public health.
How we will meet
In 2024 QMMN ran several events throughout the year on topics such as co-design, qual versus quant, participatory action research. Events for 2025 will be determined by network input - including how you answer the below questions.
