Supporting schools as they meet the needs of struggling readers including those with dyslexia is the primary function of the Alabama Scottish Rite Foundation.  We began providing reading assistance, at no cost, to children at the University of Montevallo in 1978 with the establishment of the Scottish Rite Clinic for Childhood Language Disorders.  The work of the Alabama Scottish Rite Foundation evolved over the years and has included providing dyslexia evaluations at no cost to families, providing professional development for educators, and now providing scholarship support to those individuals seeking to become Certified Academic Language Therapists.
We offer scholarships for Alabama teachers who wish to become Certified Academic Language Therapists (CALTs) and who are applying for admission to an Alabama-based CALT training program accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC)
We began this scholarship program during the summer of 2022 as we provided tuition scholarships to six individuals admitted to the UA-CALT program at the University of Alabama.
Complete this application if you wish to be considered for an Alabama Scottish Rite Foundation CALT Scholarship.  Applications must be received by the end of the first week in January each year and scholarship recipients will be notified by April 1.
