INTRODUCTION

Thank you for taking the time to participate in this survey.

Research from Voluntary Work Australia (2010) indicates that:

- Only 25% of adults who spoke a language other than English at home, volunteered across Australia (840,000 people)
- Compared to 38% of Australian born native English speaking women (3.24 million women) and 34% of Australian born native English speaking adult men (2.85 million men)

NMLL ran a volunteer forum in May 2016 and while there was good interest from the multicultural community, it was difficult to get organisations to come to the forum to provide our community with volunteer opportunities.  As a result of this, we wanted to find out more about how the volunteer "involving" agencies engaged the multicultural community in their volunteer programs.

In July 2016, NMLL received funding from the City of Melbourne to work in partnership with Volunteering Victoria, Kensington Neighbourhood House, Carlton Neighbourhood Learning Centre and The Centre, to consult with the local multicultural community about their experience of volunteering – especially as a pathway to getting work, and to talk to agencies about their experiences in engaging the CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) community in volunteering.

So far we have met with over 40 community members in the Carlton, Flemington, Kensington & North Melbourne areas as well as with approximately 30 service providers asking them a range of questions specifically related to the engagement of the CALD community in volunteering.  This information is currently being collated and will be shared with service providers by mid 2017.

We greatly appreciate your time in completing this survey so that we can begin to understand the barriers and enablers of recruiting CALD volunteers as well as gaining your insights regarding what you have tried and what has and hasn't worked in the passed.  The survey should take you around 10-15 minutes to complete from start to finish.
