Ohio and several other states are exploring accelerated BS degree models designed to create a skilled workforce through focused, industry-aligned education. These programs aim to reduce both the cost of education and the time to graduation. The University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy is proposing a NEW 90-Credit Accelerated BS degree in Cosmetic Science and Technology designed to blend rigorous scientific foundations with specialized course and lab work in cosmetic science and technology, without sacrificing a liberal arts education. In the first year, students build a strong base in general chemistry, biology, calculus, and communication skills, while gaining early exposure to the cosmetic and personal care industry. The second-year advances into organic chemistry, physics, analytical or biochemistry, and introduces technical writing alongside humanities electives. By the third and fourth semesters, the curriculum shifts toward applied learning with courses in cosmetic chemistry, surface and colloid science (including lab work), and options for instrumental analysis, or anatomy and physiology. Co-ops will complement the academic structure, ensuring graduates are prepared for careers in formulations and product development in the beauty and personal care sector.
