WHAT:
The Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce and Muskegon Community College have partnered to bring a diverse group of professionals together in a community awareness program that will provide you with information and connections that will help you “make a difference."
WHY:
Service to community starts with understanding your “community as a system,” its strengths and weaknesses, its challenges and opportunities, as well as its past accomplishments in order to become more effective leaders who can impact its future.
WHEN:
Classes begin on September 8 and continue until November 10. See the “Schedule at a Glance” for times and details.
WHO:
Applicants should have an interest in community involvement, a demonstrated commitment to the area and a desire to better understand what makes Muskegon a great place to live, work, play and learn.
WHERE:
All sessions will take place at locations along the Muskegon County Lakeshore.

Welcome Orientation
Meet the participants during a presentation on how during this program you will discover all things Muskegon County! This includes a networking reception one of Muskegon’s scenic venues.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 | 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
"A Lifetime Adventure"
A guided bus tour of the northern lakeshore, presented by area leaders with active stops at the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park and Howmet Aerospace.

“Clean Water for All”
Tour of Muskegon Resource Recovery and Muskegon Lake cruise on the W.G. Jackson, learn how Muskegon is committed to protecting our environment.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6 | 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM
“Leadership Starts in Your Neighborhood”
This session includes a walking tour of historic institutions, presentations from area cultural leaders, and a discussion on community assets. Followed by casual conversations at new gathering place.

“Three Became One”
The story behind investing in healthcare, a comprehensive senior services program, and an area tour.

“Education to Entrepreneurship”
Muskegon leads the way with the Muskegon Promise, Muskegon Career Tech Center and many cutting edge workforce training programs. Tour amazing facilities and discuss issues with local education leaders.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10 | 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM
“Business Matters”
Discussion with key business leaders on the ups and downs of the local economy. Presentation lunch wraps up the program.

Checks should be made payable to the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce Foundation, and a portion may be eligible for a tax deduction under the Internal Revenue Code as a business expense. If you would like to pay by credit card, please contact the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber at 231-722-3751. Cancellations made after the final tuition deadline WILL NOT BE REFUNDED. Partial scholarships are available ONLY on the basis of demonstrated need and class composition.
