You are invited to take part in a research study about the impact of attachment style, minority stress, and adolescence bullying on relationship satisfaction of SGM individuals. This form is part of a process called “informed consent” to allow you to understand this study before deciding whether to take part.


This study seeks to have 95-105 volunteers who are over the age of 18 and identify as Sexual Gender Minority (SGM) including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and other sexual minorities. You must also have experienced victimization as a result of your sexual orientation or gender identity during adolescence. Finally, you must also be in a committed relationship with a same sex partner for at least 6 months. This study is being conducted by a researcher named Regina Foster, who is a Doctoral Student at Walden University


Study Purpose:

The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact that adolescent bullying, minority stress, and attachment style has on the relationship satisfaction of SGM individuals.


Procedures:

You are asked to complete an online survey that will take about 20 minutes to complete.

Have you been hit, pushed, or physically hurt in a mean or hurtful way?


I had sexual contact with someone against my will.


I often worry that romantic partners do not really love me.


My partner and I have an active social life.


Voluntary Nature of the Study:

Research should only be done with those who volunteer freely. So, everyone involved will respect your decision to join or not. If you decide to join the study now, you can still change your mind later. You may stop at any time.


Risks and Benefits of Participation:

This study contains questions that delve into personal and sensitive information about how you might have been victimized in the past. These questions could result in some distress and discomfort for you. This study offers no direct benefits to individual volunteers. The aim of this study is to provide information to the field of counseling about the unique challenges that SGM individuals face in a heterosexual world. This research study will give voice to SGM individuals about how relationship satisfaction is impacted by minority stress, bullying, and attachment style. Results of this study will be automatically published online in Scholarworks (a publication of Walden University doctoral research) which can be viewed free of charge.

Payment:

There will be no direct compensation to participants for participating in this research study.

Privacy:

The researcher is required to protect your privacy. Your identity will be kept anonymous. The researcher will not ask for your name at any time or link your responses to your contact info. Also, the researcher will not include anything that could identify you in the study reports. If the researcher were to share this dataset with another researcher in the future, the dataset would contain no identifiers so this would not involve another round of obtaining informed consent. Data will be kept secure by password protection on a secure platform. Data will be kept for a period of at least 5 years, as required by the university.
