The primary purpose of this study is to enhance the understanding and recognition of the contributions made by philanthropic organizations across East Africa. It is being conducted by the
East Africa Philanthropy Network and the Indiana
University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. By focusing on the East Africa Philanthropy Network's member organizations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Ethiopia, the study aims to quantify both domestic and cross-border philanthropic giving. It examines how these charitable investments align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and assesses the allocation of funds across various development sectors. The findings will redefine the narrative of philanthropy in East Africa, promoting an industry that is more recognized, accountable, and capable of driving sustainable development throughout the region.
