Course Description

Forensic Biology Overview  

This one hour training session  provides an overview of techniques in forensic biology for police officers, crown and defense counsel to facilitate investigative and litigative activities.  This session will discuss the identification of body fluids, forensic DNA analysis (including autosomal, male specific and mitochondrial) and newer DNA-based investigative aids (including forensic genealogy, biogeographic ancestry, phenotypic testing).

By the end of the session, participants will demonstrate knowledge of the different analytical options available, the limitations of DNA-based testing, and the salience of the case context in interpretation of results.
