Radon is a colorless, odorless, radioactive and naturally-occurring gas. It is the main cause of lung cancer for non-smokers. The Florida Department of Health works to make people aware of the importance of preventing radon exposure to help to reduce their risk of lung cancer. Modern construction practices and energy efficiency standards can have the unintended consequence of pulling in and trapping radon gas in homes, thus posing a health risk for occupants. Simple techniques which can be used during construction have been developed to greatly reduce the amount of radon that enters a home. These techniques are referred to as Radon-Resistant New Construction.
