The recently approved Midtown Parks and Public Space Master Plan identified Brazos Street as one of the priority streets recommended for capital improvements. An important route commuters use from Midtown to downtown is by way of Brazos Street, so it’s imperative that this roadway is as safe and accommodating as possible to motorists, pedestrians, and others in transit. The improvements to Brazos Street will provide an enhanced pedestrian realm and an improved vehicular connection through Midtown.
Previous Midtown surveys and planning studies recommended roadway, infrastructure, and streetscape enhancements along Brazos Street between St. Joseph Parkway and Elgin Street. The goal of the Brazos Street project is to incorporate improvements in alignment with the City’s Vision Zero and Resilient Houston goals. Additionally, a new bikeway approved as part of the Houston Bike Plan is proposed for the project.
The Brazos Street project objective is to improve the standard of living for people who live and work in the area, focusing on walkable and bikeable streetscapes to provide comfortable connections throughout Midtown.
