Thank you for your interest in participating as a Community Advisory Board (CAB) member in our project regarding bi+ belonging and community! We are defining bi+ as people who identify as bisexual, pansexual, polysexual, biromantic, panromantic, and all identities indicating sexual and/or romantic attraction to more than one gender. Our investigator team includes people who identify as members of the bi+ community, and your involvement as a CAB member will help us ensure our project is rooted in the lived experiences of bi+ people.

A little history on the project: The lead investigators (Kirsten Gonzalez and Corey Flanders) have been searching for a survey measure that captured bi+ people’s feelings of belonging and connection to community, and realized that there wasn’t one in existence that centered bi+ people. So we set out to make our own! In the spring of 2019, we conducted focus groups with a total of 40 bi+ people to learn more about their experiences of belonging and community. Now we are moving onto the stage of our project to turn the information those participants provided into a scale, with your help!

Participation on the CAB will involve 4 meetings a year, hosted on a videoconferencing service, where you provide feedback and direction on the development of the new survey measure, recruitment of bi+ participants for the study to assess the measure, and priorities for the distribution of the study findings, among other tasks. All CAB members will receive $50 for each meeting in the form of a gift card.

To ensure our CAB includes perspectives from a group of bi+ people that is diverse and representative of bi+ community in the U.S., we are asking interested folks to complete the following short survey. A research team member will follow up with you in the coming weeks. While we may not be able to include everyone on the CAB, please let us know if you’d like to be contacted to participate in the future study for this project!
