SPIRIT-CHD Mentoring - General Interest Form
The SPIRIT-CHD Summer Internship Program provides underrepresented undergraduate and medical students with 8-weeks of intensive clinical and/or behavioral research studies under the mentorship of an assigned expert research scientist from Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The SPIRIT-CHD Summer Internship Program is funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) through the Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities' (CRCHD) Partnerships to Advance Cancer Health Equity (PACHE) programs. For their participation in the program participants receive a stipend to cover personal expenses.
Mentor Expectations:
- Supervise student work activities day-to-day during their placement in the lab
- Provide feedback, guidance and suggestions regarding professional development
- Allow students to attend all mandatory SPIRIT-CHD related activities (weekly didactic seminars, community outreach events, team meetings)
Program Managers for the SPIRIT-CHD partnership will handle all administrative and on-boarding tasks for students before placement in you lab. The internship culminated with a 5-minute, professional scientific presentation during Moffitt's annual Research Day for summer student trainees. Students are also expected to submit a formal abstract before successfully completing the program.
