EXIT Dyslexia Working Group Application (August 2022) Application OverviewThank you for applying to serve on the Dyslexia Working Group established within the Colorado Department of Education. As a part of this online application, all applicants will be asked to upload a letter of interest. Applicants applying to fill a professional role will be asked to upload a current resume. CDE is seeking to fill the following position to serve on the group: A parent of a child who is identified as having dyslexia OK Background InformationDuring the 2019 legislative session, the Colorado General Assembly passed House Bill 19-1134, Identification and Interventions for Students with Dyslexia. The bill created a working group appointed by the Commissioner of Education to analyze state and national data and practices concerning identification and support of students with dyslexia. The working group has been in place since the fall of 2019. More information can be found on the working group webpage. The specific charge of the group include: Recommending dyslexia screening tools and processes Developing a statewide plan for identifying and supporting students with dyslexia Recommending educator training in recognizing and providing interventions for students with dyslexia The working group must submit annual reports of its recommendations to the Commissioner, and the Commissioner must submit the report to the State Board of Education and the education committees of the General Assembly.The bill also established a pilot program to assist local education providers in using READ Act assessments to screen for dyslexia and in providing interventions for students who are identified as having dyslexia. More information can be found on the pilot program webpage. OK Meeting Dates and LocationsIn order to be selected, members of the working group must commit to attend all meetings. The working group meets every other month with smaller working groups meeting in off months. The whole working group typically meets from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The smaller working group meetings are typically 2 - 3 hours scheduled according to the needs of the members.
