WHAT IS A SHORT TERM RENTAL?
Short Term Rental (STR) is the rental of rooms or dwellings to paying guests (lodging) for 1-29 days.  Due in part to online hosting platforms like AirBnB, VRBO and others, this industry has grown rapidly in recent years.

WHY ARE WE CONSIDERING THE ISSUE?
Short-term rentals of dwellings (rentals of fewer than 30 days) are currently prohibited in Lake Oswego’s residential zones; however, there are currently a number of non-compliant STRs in the City.  In April 2018, the City Council directed the Planning Commission to recommend development code changes that would regulate Short Term Rentals (STRs) if the City were to allow them in residential zones.  The Commission’s work will include developing regulations and licensing requirements to address potential impacts of STRs on residential areas and code enforcement needs.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE SURVEY?
The purpose of this survey is to understand Lake Oswego residents’ opinions regarding STRs: what concerns may arise if STRs are allowed, and what opportunities might be lost if STRs continue to be prohibited.  This brief survey (16 questions) is intended to help in the preparation of a draft ordinance for public review and a hearing with the Planning Commission in late 2018 or early 2019.

It should take you approximately 5 minutes to complete the survey; your responses will be kept confidential.  Thank you for participating.
