Portland Survey

We are standing as Independent Councillors in the up coming local elections in May . Part of our ethos is to ask what the people of Portland want rather than repeating party political soundbites. As part of this interaction we would like your opinion on local issues and strategic polices.
1.Environment. Portland is a beautiful island, rich in sunshine and wind. Should we encourage support low impact wind, Solar and tidal solutions that benefit the island?
2.Transport Infrastructure. The A354 Portland Beach Road (Causeway) is at maximum capacity, which is why we have long queues on and off the island at peak times. As we add more development to the island we will need solutions in the near future. Which of the following would be the best solution for you.
3.Transport on Portland. While the core of the island has an adequate bus service, residents in the outlying areas have a long walk to the main bus routes and services or are forced to use a car for short journeys.
Would a frequent mini bus type round island service linking all the outlying areas be used and would it benefit most residents.
4.Parking is a serious issue in large parts of Portland.Most of the car parks are free which is good for local people and visitors. But because there is no revenue there is little investment or maintenance of the existing car parks.
5.Is antisocial behaviour with young people a problem on Portland.
6.Arts Culture.  Portland is a beautiful place, full of interesting people with an amazing history and diverse environment which is not always appreciated in the wider world.
7.Activity Tourisim (Climbing, Walking, Cycling, running and horse riding) is always mentioned as a key development goal for Portland. However, the key infrastructure for these activities (paths / tracks) are ignored.  Most of the key footpaths are muddy, unmarked and not suitable for the huge amount of traffic.
Should we be working with stakeholders and partners to improve the footpaths around and across the island.
8.Littering and Dog Waste is a serious problem in many areas on Portland. The most effective solutions from other areas are a mixture of carrot, education and stick.
