Question Title

* Dear Participant,

Thank you for agreeing to participate in this research survey, which is carried out in connection with a Dissertation which will be written in partial fulfilment of the requirements of a PhD candidature at the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö, Sweden.

The topic of the Dissertation is: The role of the seafarer as a stakeholder in the achievement of social sustainability in the maritime industry.

More specifically, this survey is aimed at identifying seafarers’ needs and interests relevant to social sustainability in the maritime industry and how they can be more effectively addressed.

The survey is intended for active merchant navy officers (including cadets with some sea time at any stage of their training) and those who have stopped sailing within the past three years.

The scope of the inquiry is limited to the maritime/shipping industry and vessels used for international transportation of cargo and people and related human activities. For the purposes of this survey, we have excluded ships not related to international commercial transport activities, such as vessels operating in internal waterways, military and other governmental ships on non-commercial service, yachts and pleasure crafts, mobile offshore units and fishing industry vessels.

The information provided by you in this survey will be used for research purposes and the results will form part of a dissertation, which will later be published online in WMU's digital repository (maritime commons) subject to final approval of the University and made available to the public. Your personal information will not be published. You may withdraw from the research at any time, and your personal data will be immediately deleted.

Anonymised research data will be archived on a password-protected personal computer. All the data will be deleted at the end of the period specified in the WMU’s doctoral rules (i.e., ten years). Within that period, access to the data is possible only with the unanimous approval of all members of the University’s Research and Ethics Committee (REC).

Your participation in the interview is highly appreciated.
