NYCDOT is currently evaluating the Green Light for Midtown pilot program.

The project simplified the street grid in Midtown by removing complex intersections on Sixth and Seventh Avenues at Times and Herald Squares. The iconic destinations of Times and Herald Squares had been equally known for being logjams for pedestrian and vehicular mobility. DOT has knit together Seventh Avenue through Times Square, where Broadway once interrupted its continuity, and converted a complicated, congested, and dangerous three-street intersection to a standard two-street intersection at Sixth Avenue through Herald Square. Rerouting traffic from Broadway allowed for the creation of pedestrian plazas from 47th to 42nd Streets and from 35th to 33rd Streets.

Please take 5-10 minutes to complete this survey to assist with DOT's evaluation of Green Light for Midtown.

The project has four main goals: to improve mobility; to increase public safety; to support the City’s economy and to provide world class public space.
