Applications are open from July 17, 2023 and ALL applications must be submitted by October 31, 2023 at 11:59 PM U.S. Eastern Standard Time for consideration.  
 
Eligibility: 
  • Researchers of all career stages from anywhere in the world are welcome to apply. The Prize actively seeks applications from trainees and early-stage researchers. Applicants may apply as Individuals or as a team. 
  • Applicants ideally possess the relevant expertise and qualifications in their respective fields required to demonstrate the feasibility of their project. 
  • Awardee(s) will present their results at BSF’s 2024 International Scientific, Medical and Family Conference.

Data disclaimer: As with many manually composed datasets, the Human TAFAZZIN Variants Database may contain some ambiguities and missing values. Users should acknowledge these features of the dataset may be complications for analysis. Competitors are encouraged think outside the box about ways to reformat and expand (e.g., through data mining from external sources) database as necessary for their proposals as well as finding a balance between filtering ambiguities out and/or maintaining them as the input data to maximize the power of their analyses.

Review:
Applications received by the deadline will undergo a thorough review process conducted by the Prize’s Organizing and Review Committee (ORC). Evaluation criteria will include scientific merit, innovation, feasibility, potential impact, and alignment with the mission of BSF. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview in January 2024 to further discuss their research proposal. Winner will be announced in late February/early March 2024.
