DCSD: Facilities Scenario Survey

This survey is the first of many around the DCSD Facilities Planning Process. This first iteration is intended to gather feedback in order to inform further refinement of scenarios. NO DECISIONS HAVE BEEN MADE. Any consolidations need to be approved by the Board, it is not feasible to implement any consolidations before the 2027-28 school year. Consolidations will very likely need to be phased over 6-8 years.
Top Five Things You Need to Know to Complete This Survey
1. DCSD has a capacity for 110,000 students but has less than 92,000 students. This has lead to resources being spread too thin among all the schools.
2. No decisions have been made. This is the first round of feedback that will inform future scenarios.
3. This scenario proposes the consolidation of 27 facilities which also includes transitioning some high schools to middle schools and some middle schools to elementary schools. This will concentrate resources in the remaining schools which can lead to more access to opportunities for all students.
4. It is also possible to change the grade band configuration of the remaining facilties to better serve students. For example, a high schools that is proposed to convert to a middle school could alternatively be converted to a 6-12 that would better use the capacity while maintaining a high school community.
5. This survey is intended to collect feedback around both consolidation of facilities and possible grade band configuration changes. Please be specific with your feedback regarding clusters, consolidations, and grade bands.
