WSDA Livestock Product Requirements Survey

Introduction

WSDA was enabled by ESB 5341 to create a new statewide voluntary program to promote and label Washington food and agricultural products. Although the program has not created a brand name yet or logo(s) yet, WSDA is currently drafting eligibility requirements for producers to carry the logo/label on their products. We are seeking feedback in this survey from the livestock industry on the drafted product eligibility requirement. For more information, contact WSDA Program Administrator, Lora Liegel, lora.liegel@agr.wa.gov – 360-489-4077.

This is the proposed draft requirement:

“Livestock products must come from livestock that:

a. Were born, raised, and harvested in the United States. No livestock that originate from outside the United States may qualify; and

b. Are raised, grazed, fed, or processed in Washington; spending at least 75% of their life in Washington.”

Please answer the following questions:
1.What is your name?
2.What is your email address?
3.Which organizations do you belong to? Select all that apply.
4.Which parts of the requirement are just right, too strict, or not specific enough? Please share your thoughts on the proposed draft requirement.
5.Is there anything else you would like to share with WSDA about the promotion/labeling program?
