Each year the VMBA Bill Axselle Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to an individual that exemplifies the spirit grace and achievement of Bill Axselle and the following criteria:
- An enduring career in the Virginia mortgage industry (generally 10+ years)
- May be currently in the industry, retired or deceased
- A long-standing supporter of the Virginia Mortgage Bankers Association
- Known for great integrity and high ethical standards
- Contributed to the betterment and advancement of others in the industry
- Willingness to be an advocate for the wholesome values of the mortgage industry

- 2020 | Stan Vickhouse *(awarded posthumously)*
- 2021 | Jim Cain
- 2022 | Mary Ann Maxwell Musselman
- 2023 | Susan Dewey
- 2024 | Sarah Stedfast
The award recipient will be voted on by the current VMBA Board of Directors. Nominations are only accepted from current VMBA members. The deadline for submissions is August 15, 2025.
The award will be presented at the VMBA Annual Convention during the VMBA Annual Members Meeting on September 11, 2025.
