Application background (Deadline to apply: April 15)

This summer, a coalition of educators and leading area employers will again be offering the Teachers’ Manufacturing Bootcamp, an interactive program that gives elementary, middle school and high school educators an up-close look at manufacturing careers as well as a $1,100 stipend and continuing education credits.

The 2019 Teachers’ Manufacturing Bootcamp is offered to educators in the Southwest Indiana/Tri-State area. In addition to classroom instruction, the 30 winners of the bootcamp fellowship will spend two days at each of four participating manufacturers – Alcoa, Berry Plastics, Toyota and Sabic – where they will spend time in production areas learning about safety, quality, lean manufacturing, problem solving and creativity. This first-hand experience will give educators insight into well-paid jobs in manufacturing and the skills needed to obtain such positions.

The bootcamp will begin with  orientation on Monday, June 10. 2019, and tours and demonstrations at Ivy Tech Community College and University of Southern Indiana on Friday, June 14. On June 17 – 27 participants will be required to attend sessions at each of the four manufacturing sites followed by a final presentation on Friday, June 28, 2019.

This workshop is funded by the Alcoa Warrick Operations, Berry Global, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana and Sabic Innovative Plastics through Grow Southwest Indiana Workforce, a non-profit arm of WorkOne.

Teachers who are selected for the bootcamp will receive these benefits:
• A $1,100 stipend • Continuing Education Credits • Invaluable experience that they can translate back to their schools • Instruction from top-level professionals and staff at Ivy Tech and the University of Southern Indiana.
