Scholarship Information

Description
This year, we are awarding special scholarships for the Birds of Maine Islands session at Hog Island. This session runs from August 31 - September 5, 2025.

Learn what it's like to be a seabird biologist or "puffineer" in the place that seabird conservation first took flight! During this exciting hands-on week, seabird biologists and conservationists will guide campers through the biology, threats, and conservation of birds on Maine coastal islands. You can read a full program description on our website

These scholarships are meant to assist folks who have a genuine financial need and interest in camp. Scholarship applications will be reviewed by our committee and awarded on a sliding scale based on need. Most scholarships are for $500. You can read more about our scholarships on our website.

Eligibility:
Everyone with financial need and interest is eligible to apply!

Instructions:
  1. Contact the Hog Island team at hogisland.audubon.org to register for the camp session and pay the $100 deposit to hold your spot. You do not need to complete the rest of the registration forms or pay the full tuition until you receive notice from us about your scholarship. We require you to secure a spot in advance to make sure the session does not fill while we are evaluating applications. If you are not awarded a scholarship, your deposit will be refunded.
  2. Scholarship decisions will be announced on a rolling basis and applied to your CampDoc account. You will need to notify Hog Island within one week of receiving this notice if you no longer plan to attend the session.

This application will close one month prior to the session on August 1, 2025.

Application Requirements:
This form has two sections to complete.
  1. Applicant information - your contact information, age, etc.
  2. Personal narrative - Short answer questions where you will tell us more about yourself and how receiving this scholarship would impact you and your community.

Post-Camp Requirement:
The recipient must act as a Hog Island 'Ambassador' by sharing their Hog Island experience in a public setting within 1 year of being awarded the scholarship. The venue is at the discretion of the participant - for example, a school presentation, slideshow for your Audubon chapter, blog post, or write-up in the town newspaper about your experience. Please send a short email to hogisland@audubon.org about how you shared your experience, including any relevant links.
