Extreme Weather and Climate Adaptation Survey

Live music organisations across Canada are experiencing heat, smoke, storms, flooding, drought, and other weather-related challenges. These impacts have not been documented nationally, limiting understanding of sector-wide risks, costs, and support needs.

The Canadian Live Music Association is conducting a national survey to fill the gap, and is inviting your insight.

This survey takes approximately 25 minutes and asks about:
  • The types of live music events you work on in Canada
  • Financial and operational impacts from weather (e.g., delays, cancellations, damage)
  • How your organisation prepares and responds to weather-related risks
If you require an alternative format or have questions, please contact Sergio Emilio Parra (sparra@canadianlivemusic.ca).

This project will help clarify how extreme weather is shaping live music in Canada and what is needed to strengthen preparedness and resilience.

The survey reflects prevailing Canadian event safety approaches that treat weather and the environment as external risks to be managed. We acknowledge that Indigenous perspectives understand weather as relational to people and place, where all is interconnected.

Your participation supports diverse perspectives and informs more holistic, long-term planning tools and policy discussions for the live music sector.

Before you begin, it may help to have a general sense of:
  • The number of events you support annually
  • Significant weather-related incidents in the past three years
  • Approximate financial impacts of major weather-related incidents
  • Any weather-related insurance coverage, costs, or claims
For this research, the live music industry includes organisations that plan, promote, or present live musical performances. Please limit responses to live music events only. Exact figures are not required; best estimates and professional judgment are sufficient.

All responses are confidential and used only by the research team. Results will be reported in aggregate form, and any quoted open-ended responses will be anonymised.

Data will be stored securely using a trusted cloud service and retained for a limited period for research and reporting purposes.

Thank you for sharing your time and insights with us.
