Rancho Santa Margarita Local Hazard Mitigation Plan Community Survey

The Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA 2000) requires a community to have an approved hazard mitigation plan to be eligible to apply for and receive certain Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) hazard mitigation funds. Receipt of FEMA funding is critical to implementing identified hazard mitigation projects and programs.

Through a grant from FEMA, the City of Rancho Santa Margarita has initiated preparation of a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP).  The LHMP provides a framework for our community to reduce its vulnerability to the impacts of natural hazard events such as earthquakes, drought, and wildfires.  The purpose of mitigation planning is to identify policies and to take actions that can be implemented over the long term to reduce risk and future losses when an emergency or disaster occurs.  Mitigation plans form the foundation for a community's long-term strategy to reduce disaster losses and break the cycle of disaster damage, reconstruction, and repeated damage.

As we prepare your LHMP, an important component is community participation.   Please complete this survey!  Your input will help the Planning Team understand the community’s concerns and will guide development of the LHMP.  Please note this is not a scientific survey, but it will assist the Planning Team to better understand the communities’ perspective on hazards that could impact the City and identify opportunities to inform and help the community prepare and respond to those hazards.

The survey should take approximately 10-12 minutes to complete and is anonymous.  Your information will be kept confidential.  The results of the survey will be included within the LHMP.

Thank you for taking the time to participate in this information-gathering process.
