Mental health supported accommodation model of care project

The ACT Government has committed to increasing the number of mental health supported accommodation houses in the ACT. Mental Health, Justice Health, Alcohol and Drug Services (MHJHADS) at Canberra Health Services currently have 4 houses providing long term homes for people who have complex mental illness and require significant support to live independently in the community.
It is important to review the current model of mental health supported accommodation to ensure it is meeting the needs of residents and is the most appropriate model for the future.
The project will review the future needs and options for expanding mental health supported accommodation services for people who require accommodation on a permanent basis to release hospital beds for consumers needing an inpatient admission.
The project team would like to hear from consumers and carers about what is working well in terms of clinical services, NDIS supports and the tenancy arrangements,  the challenges and issues, and what should be considered in the future model of care and building design.
If you would like further information please contact the project officer judith.ingwersen@act.gov.au
