Entry requirements

Kiribati Teachers College (KTC) offers a range of programs. This application form is for our programs aimed at trainees wishing to become primary and junior secondary school teachers.

 

To be eligible to apply for admission to KTC you must meet one of the criteria below. In addition, you must be aged between 18 and 43 years of age at the time of entry into KTC and all applicants will need to satisfy KTC's English language proficiency requirements (see below). You may be required to attend an interview where you will be asked about your motivations for wanting to become a teacher.

 
High School Graduates
 
If you are applying on the basis of your high school results you must have:
•          passed at least Form Six with a total aggregate score of not more than 14 points in English, Mathematics, and two other subjects; or
•           taken a preliminary or foundation English or Mathematics course at USP, or any other recognized institutions, and achieved a B (or 3)Grade or above (or equivalent) in any two other preliminary or foundation courses
•          Must complete and pass all screening stages (interview, English Language Entrance Examination)
•          Must meet the minimum English Language Proficiency entry-level (of the English Language Entrance Examination) which is aligned to CEFR B1.

Mature Applicants

If you are applying as a mature-age applicant, you must be aged between 18 and 43 years of age at the time of entry into KTC. You will need to satisfactorily complete KTC's literacy and numeracy entrance tests.  

  •  must have completed Form 5 with at least a B in  English, Kiribati, and Math and a pass in one more subject or
  • have completed Form 6 with a total aggregate score of not more than 16 points with a C in both English and Math and two other subjects, or  
  • have taken a preliminary or foundation English and Mathematics course at USP or any other recognized institutions, and achieved a C Grade or above as well as in any two other courses
  • Satisfactory completion through achieving a passing grade in KTC’s literacy and numeracy entrance test, interview, and the English Language Entrance Examination which is an equivalence of B1 (CEFR)

Tertiary Graduates

 
If you hold at least a bachelor-level qualification may be entitled to enter via the KTC Tertiary Graduate Entry Program. This fast-track program can have you qualified as graduate level teacher within one (1) year. If you would like to apply for the KTC Tertiary Graduate Entry Program, do not complete this form. ·  Must have a bachelor’s degree in any teaching subject but without a teaching qualification and must complete and pass an interview, English Language Entrance Examination

·  Must meet the minimum English Language proficiency entry-level (of the English Language Entrance Examination) of at least an equivalence of B1 (CEFR)
