Historical Context for this Field Review
After many years of writing and maintaining holistic nursing standards, definitions, and terminology, AHNA successfully gained ANA recognition in 2007 as an official "nursing specialty" and in 2013, the 2nd edition of Holistic Nursing: Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice was adopted and released. This work continues, as it should, and is the ongoing obligation of AHNA.

The Scope and Standards of Practice adopted by specialty nursing associations are reviewed and edited every five years. In the spring of 2017, AHNA will be submitting revisions to the ANA for publication of the 3rd edition.
